The Dirtbags have a strong passion for cycling, healthy competition, friendship and good fun. We strive to be excellent ambassadors of cycling, to preserve and protect the environment where we live and cycle, and to promote mountain biking in a way that is environmentally sound and socially responsible.
In addition to the Christmas Bikes, our outreach includes: Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, Juvenile Diabetes, Wounded Veterans Ride 2 Recovery, and Breast Cancer.

Christmas Bikes
Our mission is simple: provide bikes and helmets to families of VAFB's deployed service members. The Christmas Bikes program is our way of supporting, and showing appreciation for, America's finest and their courageous families.
In 2006, the first year of Christmas Bikes, we gave away 12 bikes and helmets. Last year that number was 100. This year with so many service people still overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan, our goal is over 125 bikes and helmets. Each bike and helmet is chosen specifically for a particular child's needs.
The Village Dirtbags would like to give you the chance to join us in our mission. Your support will be greatly appreciated by the childern at VAFB, their parents, and the Dirtbags - just in time to celebrate the spirit of the Christmas season. Each bike and helmet is chosen specifically for a particular child's needs. Thank you in advance for your help.
Contributions are tax deductible and 100% of each contribution will go directly towards the Christmas Bikes program.

Santa Barbara News Press - Sunday December 20, 2009
Christmas came early this year for a hundred kids from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
A local cycling group came together and gave them brand new bicycles.
After four years of the event they decided to give a little more.
The group is called the Village Dirtbags, but don't let their name fool you.
Not only did they give one hundred kids new bikes, they also made three disabled veterans very happy.
Smiles spread from ear to ear as these kids ride their brand new bikes for the first time.
Four years ago the Village Dirtbags cycling group decided to donate bikes to children of deployed service members from Vandenberg.
The first year they had twelve bikes to give away. This year they helped a hundred kids smile.
Three disabled veterans also got custom made bikes that cost around a thousand dollars apiece.
